History Lesson

The news is of war

and destruction, one bully,

a gang, threatening,

total destruction, retaliation,

puffed out ego-boosting one-

upmanship, ending the same,

only losers, life and innocence

lost, uncertainty and fear,

like before, my generation,

my dad’s and his, too, like always.

And in 100 years, the statues

will be torn down, offensive,

until the next hero bullies

another, threatens another,

total destruction, retaliation,

ego, loss, and death,

like before, like always.
